Emotional DifficultiesMaree works with adults (age 18 onwards) experiencing a range of emotional and mental health issues. Some examples include:
Emotions are at the core of many psychological and relational problems. When we recognise, embody and find healthy ways to express our emotional selves, we start to feel a sense of balance and wholeness. |
Grief and LossGrief is a natural and unfolding process when we lose someone or something significant to us. This may occur when someone dies, becomes sick or changes in some fundamental way.
We may also feel grief when something in our life changes or ends. This could be a relationship, a job, a dream we held dear or a part of our sense of identity. Grief may include a variety of emotions, such as sadness, melancholy, anger, frustration, regret, numbness, hurt and hopelessness. We might even feel disillusioned by the world and question our sense of meaning and purpose in life. Getting support through this time may be important in allowing us to acknowledge, move through and live with our unique experience of grief. |
Relationship IssuesThe very essence of human life is relationship. A healthy relationship requires both connection and separation, however, getting this balance right for us (and the other) is often tricky to navigate.
When we become more aware of how we engage and disengage in our relationships and work through emotional issues which contribute to difficulties with intimacy and solitude, we have a better chance of feeling secure and satisfied within our relationships. Maree provides an opportunity for people to understand their patterns of connection and disconnection and to explore emotional issues which contribute to relational difficulties. |
Painful feelings are telling us something important. They need to be allowed, listened to, connected to and cared about in the presence of another (and when alone). This in itself is soothing and makes us feel better.
Personal & Professional Development
for Mental Health Professionals
Therapy for the TherapistPerhaps in no other field of work is personal growth and self-awareness so inexplicitly tied to professional growth. Many well known psychotherapists, such as Nancy McWilliams and Irvin Yalom, are proponents of therapists engaging in their own therapy; for personal growth and to develop professionally into becoming more effective therapists.
Maree feels passionate about the importance of psychologists and other mental health professionals doing their own personal therapy. She welcomes the opportunity to assist you through this personal and professional journey. ...the best chance we have for increasing our capacity to understand, and thus our therapeutic range, is to know and accept ourselves as deeply as possible." Nancy McWilliams (2004) |
Supervision and ConsultancyMaree provides psychodynamic supervision for people who work with adults. She is available for an ongoing supervisory relationship, as needed or as a one-off consultation.
Maree works from a psychodynamic framework, taking into account, attachment (i.e. object relations of self and other), development and personality, while working with the transference and counter-transference in the therapeutic relationship. She adheres to a trauma-informed practice model. Maree also has extensive training in meditation, which she utilises to practice in a mindful way. |
